The bizzare appearance of this painting drying in my passenger seat is what apparently turned an ordinary traffic stop into a thorough search for drugs by Ohio State Troopers with a K-9 unit just five miles north of the Ohio River on I-77 the afternoon of November 7th, 1994. Though the dog smelled something in my car, no drugs were found hidden amongst my paintings.

Five O'clock Day

October/November 1994 - Oil - 12 by 16 inches

$80.00

I leave the local summer of my bed
to cross the special autumn of the room
to regard the sweating window
that holds back the light that
grey and cold
and through sorry remnants
of the larger summer before
looks the same from dawn until dusk
as though the clocks could only show
two times, this one being five o'clock,
day.
