sneedmall.jpg (10k) The Need for More Shopping Malls

January 8-10, 1995 - Oil on canvas- 16 by 20 inches

There are some places where it is almost impossible to buy things because in these places there are no shopping malls. Sometimes I wonder how the people living under such God forsaken conditions can even bear to go on living. Of course, even if such people chose to go on living, it seems likely that they might starve to death since there are no Food Lions nearby, and should they thus decide to eat out, no McDonalds nor Burger Kings. Once when I was in such a place, I happened into a small building with pealing paint on a corner that displayed a sign that attempted to convince me that inside lay a store. But the "store" emoted in me no desire to purchase anything, even though I was in need of some of the items stocked. Lacking was the cheerful music piped in on concealed speakers. Nowhere could I see distended middle aged mothers and their bratty children with powerwalkers trying to somehow maneuver around them. There was just a little old lady behind the counter trying to tell me how sunny the day was.
