Roughly a third of Americans believe Saddam Hussein was involved in the tragic events of 9Eleven. As many others have pointed out, this is about the same fraction of Americans who support the ongoing war in Iraq. This may also be the fraction of Americans who get their news from Fox News, people objectively-measured to be the most ignorant of all news consumers. Not only does this large bloc of people march like zombies to polling stations every November, but they are the controlling demographic of the Republican party, giving it the goofy beliefs of that freak who inevitably sits next to you in the dentist's waiting room.
More interesting, though, is the population of people who know Saddam Hussein wasn't behind 9Eleven, who know that no weapons of mass destruction were found in Iraq, but who nevertheless support the ongoing futile war in Iraq. This is a tiny but influential population. Stretching from Joe Lieberman to Rush Limbaugh to Bill O'Reilly to John McCain to Dick Cheney to George W. Bush, this eschatological elite is actively manipulating the 33% percent of Americans too ignorant or distracted (perhaps by the gay agenda) to know better. It's not just sad, it's also infuriating.
