warm Christmas, 2008 Thursday, December 25 2008
I got up well before Gretchen this morning and began work building out the structure to support two salvaged windows in the space on the south side of the greenhouse near the door. At some point I came in and Gretchen was up, so she gave me the stockings I always get for Christmas. From then on, though, the day felt more like one in springtime than it did like one in early winter. I installed the salvaged windows and began figuring our how I would roof the odd little space behind the door. Before I knew it, the sun was going down and it was time for another holiday party.
We drove out to our friends' place in Willow, the ones with a farm animal sanctuary. There were a good 14 other people already there, and they'd been drinking booze all day. They were friendly and loud, but all I wanted to think about was my greenhouse. Eventually, though, I started drinking a very fine Scotch, which definitely helped. Well after our big vegan fest we watched a DVD of Milk, the dramatization of the political rise and ultimate assassination of Harvey Milk, the first out gay person elected to office in America. There was much unncessary yelling at the teevee as we watched (for all the obvious reasons), but still I found it enjoyable. Eleanor was in my lap for nearly all of the movie.
