I had a fairly event-free drive back to Hurley, New York today after struggling initially to find my way out of the non-Euclidean maze that Greater Hogwaller can be to the geographically forgetful. (And why must every street there have Carloton in its name?) Conditions were ideal for driving, with with brilliant sunshine, warm air, and only a hint of traffic congestion on I-287 in New Jersey. For most of this ride, I let podcasts carry me, and they really were helpful in speeding the apparent passage of time.
I was back home before dark. Gretchen and I immediately watched this week's two American Idol shows. This was the week that the blind guy with the annoyingly-nasal adult contemporary voice lost propulsion on his rocket of fame.
Last night Jessika had told Aaron about how Gretchen and I watch American Idol and that it might also be a fun show for them to watch, but the idea hadn't appealed to him. I completely understand; it wouldn't appeal to me in the abstract either. My initial interest had only been in the train wreck quality of the performances at the initial screenings, but then I grew to know the participants, became hooked and wanted to watch their progress. The biggest hook of all was Tatiana, whose repulsive drama queen behavior was a bridge of "multi-episode train wreck" while I subconsciously figured out who would be my heroes and who would be my villains.
