Your leaking thatched hut during the restoration of a pre-Enlightenment state.

Hello, my name is Judas Gutenberg and this is my blaag (pronounced as you would the vomit noise "hyroop-bleuach").

   Sunday rituals
Sunday, April 15 2012
Gretchen got sick back on Tuesday and it wasn't until today that she felt well enough to take the dogs on their morning walk. Also, though she tends to steer clear of things like this when she's feeling less than 100%, she partook of our Sunday morning coffee ritual. Though the day was sunny and had an almost summerlike warmth to it, we drank our coffee in the living room as we always do, though (unlike when the ritual began) without a roaring fire in the woodstove. Gretchen solved her crossword puzzles and I read the latest issue of Make Magazine until I saw something about rotary encoders that made me want to get an internet-equipped device with which to do further research.
I still get occasional work from people I know in the real world here upstate, but it's mostly web work. Today I found myself building out a rather complicated (though conceptually common) website to support a community of Dungeons and Dragons enthusiasts. This was to be a belated Christmas present for the son of one of my more reliable web clients. Though I'd previously built a registration system and my own PHP-based messageboard system (all from scratch), there was a blogging component that I was going to have to also build from scratch. Some people would find such work daunting, especially given the sanity limit on the billable hours for a gift website. But I found the work inspiring and exhilarating. At some point in the midst of all that work, Gretchen announced that she'd made me something delicious. It was some sort of vegan quesadilla, and I wolfed it down without ever really looking at it. I didn't want to spoil the magic, and such things always taste a good bit better than they look.
I used to consider Friday nights my big teevee night, since that was when all the shows about idiots looking for gold in Alaska were broadcast. Now, though, the seasons for the gold shows have all concluded but there's a brand new season for Mythbusters, which broadcasts on Sunday. So now Sunday is my big teevee night. I'm finding, though, that I'm not liking Mythbusters quite as much as I used to. The stupid humor, inane narration, and obsession with unnecessary explosions (which has always plagued that show) seems to actually be a little worse this season, as if a focus group had decided there hadn't been quite enough.

some photos from today down in the greenhouse

Look, I'm actually using my greenhouse.

That's why it's only April and here's a tomato.

I have some mirrors in the greenhouse that I actually want to cut up and put in a few places on the outside to help gather light.

Nigel (mostly black) viewed through the greenhouse door, which also catches a reflection of Clarence (yellowish).
