Like my brownhouse:
growing tired of my physical limitations
Tuesday, June 3 2025
Last night I'd slept on a heating pad all night long, and the hope was that this would turbo-charge the recovery of my injured lower back. I then was as conservative as possible with motion at work, rarely if ever approaching the zone of pain that restricts my range of motion. Consequently, I experienced few incidents of sharp stabbing pain that come whenever my movements extend into that range.
At the end of the workday, I stopped at MyTown in Stone Ridge mostly to get more black tea (the brand I buy there is Salada, which has a minimum of packaging, though it still has the unnecessary tags, strings, and staples). While there, I also got bagels, pouches of various prepared Indian curries, and cherries, which are apparently back in season. I'd taken a recreational dose of pseudoephedrine, and it's always fun for me to go shopping after I've done that, as the small anonymous human interactions are more entertaining in that state.

Later, Gretchen went off to pilates and then some sort of training program for civilians to confront and document ICE agents. (Donald Trump found that ICE is the most easily-molded federal police force for him to turn into a Gestapo.) I tried to take the dogs for a walk, but neither came even though I started out on the Woodshed Path down to the Stick Trail. I ended up at the Chamomile Wall, but I quickly discovered that further work on that wall was impossible in my condition. Just reaching down to pick up a small stone from the ground resulted in a stabbing pain. If I'd remembered to bend my knees first, maybe I could've done it. But I was growing tired of my physical limitations and the stabbing pain no longer seemed as intense as it had. Perhaps I was healing?
But by the time I took my third bath in three days, I felt like maybe my unnecessary activity had set back my recovery a little. I was feeling like the zone of pain was perhaps encroaching further, rendering postures I'd taken comfortably in the tub yesterday no longer quite as comfortable.
