   all the nuances of why
Wednesday, June 18 2025
I had another good day at work today, and again it was because I was doing detailed SQL queries to uncover the nature of a data anomaly. It was the same anomaly I'd worked on last week, but today my investigation went deeper and explored all the nuances of why the anomaly was happening. I even did some queries to determine that the data had conformed to a certain pattern since late November, 2011.
At lunch today, the conversation lingered for a long time on the subject of mainstream teevee game shows, particularly Wheel of Fortune and Family Feud. (It says something about the chuckleheaded nature of the lunchroom court that Jeopardy! never even came up.) The project manager and perennial member of the lunchroom court had actually been on Family Feud once as part of his past work with Orange County Choppers.

At the end of the day, I stopped at MyTown Market to get provisions that included pasta, cherries, mushrooms, bagels, and a twelve pack of Lagunitas Maximus imperial IPA.
When I got back to the house, I opened the front door to find it was like a refrigerator inside the house, which had bottled up and preserved the earlier cold conditions. Outside, though, it had become hot and extremely humid, and when I took the dogs for a walk (down the Gullies Trail and then back on the Stick Trail), it was as if I was walking through a lush tropical rainforest. The ferns and sedges are doing amazing, forming a carpet on the forest floor that in some places is so dense that it is a little hard to walk through. They appear to have benefited from two consecutive years of tree canopies greatly thinned by hungry caterpillars.
Back at the house, I made a spaghetti dinner built around a frying pan full of fried onions, mushrooms, and tempeh.

This evening I took the first steps towards adding multi-line SQL queries to my ESP8266 Remote Control system, a feature that can present multiple simultaneous data grids or provide complicated structured data for templated reports. In the past I'd added this feature to the old proprietary Mercy For Animals reporting system, a system which has served as a model for the two subsequent reporting systems I have built (the other being built with an Angular frontend and a NodeJS backend for my former employer SCA back before it was cannibalized by private equity).
