location: room 3023, Galle Face Hotel, Colombo, Sri Lanka

This morning Gretchen's parents woke us up with a change of plan. We'd be eating in a different dining room, "the Long Room," and meeting up with the Zach, the leader of the vegan tour we'd be taking, and other people on our tour who had already arrived. (We knew Zach from our tour of Rajasthan back in 2019, though for some reason Gretchen thought he hadn't actually been there, something my online journal quickly disproved.) Zach tends to come off as a bit unctuous, but he means well. He gave us all hugs and then excitedly showed us what all the food options were. It was curated version of what we'd seen yesterday morning, with all the non-vegan options removed. Unfortunately, there were no dosas, and I was finding it difficult to get excited about either string hoppers or regular hoppers (the latter of which sort of turn into thick dosas as they absorb moisture). I was also having a little difficulty enjoying my food from all the patchouli present on the person of Myra, the patchouli lady.
After breakfast, Gretchen went off with her parents to a museum while I stayed back in the hotel room for some alone time. I hadn't masturbated in awhile, so I definitely got that out of the way.

Eventually I went down to the pool, where Gretchen met me after she got back from her outing. We ended up ordering a bunch of food from the kitchen. It came in the form of some fairly good soup, some Sri Lankan tapas, a salad that was all wrong for Gretchen and I ended up eating, and a huge bowl of not-great samoas. I also got a Lion beer (that's the locally-produced lager), and it came in a big bottle about 24 ounces in size.

[REDACTED]

Gretchen was already sick of Sri Lankan food, whose flavor profile (curry leaves and lots of warm spices like cinnamon) clashed with her preferences. So for dinner we walked to an upscale street featuring lots of security, a few white tourists, and a vegan-aware Thai restaurant called Monsoon. There we got fancy drinks, a pad thai, and a black pepper tofu dish. The place had a nice ambience, but the pad thai was too sweet and actually came with a little dish containing additional sugar, spice, but no salt (which it could've used). At the end of our meal, our waiter tried to get Gretchen to fill out a survey on a touchscreen, but Gretchen said she didn't want to, turning to me and saying she didn't come there to do homework.
