still avoiding Gretchen's illness Thursday, March 5 2026
Gretchen was definitely sick this morning and ended up spending most of the day in bed, as did both of the dogs (Charlotte and Neville). At some point I drove into Uptown, dropping off and picking up a book at the Hurley library along the way and then buying groceries, with an emphasis on sick supplies. So I got orange juice, grapefruit juice, grapefruits, bananas, vegetables for making soup, and tofu. I also got some things I specifically wanted, such as bagels. Unfortunately, I didn't make a list before I left so of course I neglected to get tea, dry cereal, and soup crackers.
Meanwhile a cold rain fell most of the day. It didn't seem to do much to melt the snow, but at least it didn't add to it. Supposedly we will be having unseasonably warm weather in a few days.
By late in the day, Gretchen and I were worried about the state of the dogs' bladders and colons. Gretchen's lack of activity had contributed to their lethargy, but so too had the rain. Eventually I managed to get Neville to go outside, where he took a very long piss, drilling a yellow-rimmed hole through the snow all the way down to the ground.
So far my effort to avoid contracting whatever it is that Gretchen has has been succeeding. Continuing that effort, I spent another night on the laboratory bean bag.
