K-Rock and gin Sunday, June 7 2026
location: 940 feet west of Woodworth Lake, Fulton County, NY
Today was decidedly rainy, enough to keep me mostly indoors to do rainy day projects such as helping Gretchen with that Diego Rivera puzzle. Occasionally we worked on it at the same time.
[REDACTED]
For much of the day, Gretchen was in various meetings with different people related to her laboratory dog rescue efforts, which seem to be building genuine steam. I don't really get it, but she's my wife, and I'm trying to be a supportive husband.
This evening after the last of her calls, Gretchen headed back to Hurley. This time she drove the Subaru Forester, since I no longer needed it to haul things and the Chevy Bolt's battery wasn't charged quite enough to safely get them back to the Catskills.
Once Gretchen was gone, I started drinking in earnest. I also somehow found K-Rock, a radio station for people who are into metal and other aggressive music made by white men (though there was one female singer in there somewhere). I'm a little embarrassed to admit how much I like that sort of music and the extent to which I felt like I'd found "my station." It felt very gendered for me to be listening to that while drinking custom gin-based cocktails and dangling my insect-bitten legs off a deck.
Then periodically I'd come inside and solve more of that jigsaw puzzle.
