sanding pads, booze, steroids, and muscle relaxers

I tried to take Charlotte for a walk this morning when the rain died down, but she didn't follow me past the Chamomile Wall, though I went down to the start of the Chamomile Gorge Trail to admire the spectacle of the Chamomile in flood stage after many hours of nearly-constant downpour.
Gretchen's leg was causing her so much discomfort that she managed to arrange a visit with our doctor, a person neither of us spends much time thinking of or dealing with. (Gretchen has prescriptions, though, so she's more aware of her than I am.) I drove Gretchen to that appointment late this morning and she rode there stretched out in the backseat, the only way she could get comfortable. She hobbled into the office and ended up back there for something like a half hour while I passed the time as best I could with my phone. In the end, the doctor seemed to think the problem might be sciatica and that it might be treatable with oral steroids. She also prescribed a muscle relaxer, which is always a good thing to have on hand.
I returned us home and spent a few hours in the laboratory before going out to pick up the prescriptions at the Washington Avenue CVS. While I was out, I made a big detour to Lowes, where I bought some circlular sanding pads that can be attached via velcro as well as tubes of asphalt roof patching, and several impact driver extenders, as I've found it's good to have a bunch of those when drilling through floor joists. While I was near Lowes, I also got two half gallons of liquor (that is, a whole gallon), half of which was gin and the other half of which was rum.
After dark this evening, there was a power failure that lasted well past when we went to bed, forcing us to use flashlights and 120v inverters to do various things like see or charge our phones. My travel laptop had a full charge, which is good for hours of work, so I was able to use it to do some writing. I then settled into the laboratory bean bag while watching YouTube videos on my phone and drinking booze. (My booze rules permit drinking during a power outage.)
