   arguing with a supertaster
Wednesday, September 2 2026
It was a rainy day and a bit cooler than it had been. At around 11:00pm tonight, a very powerful electrical storm blew through.

I felt about as lethargic today as I did yesterday and wondered if perhaps I was either relying too much on cherry pie for nutrition or that I'd drunk too much booze at the end of last week. I was able to take advantage of a lull in the rain and take Charlotte on an afternoon walk down the Gulleys Trail (the first time she'd had a second walk in a day in Hurley in weeks), but then I felt the need to take a hot bath. Other than that, mostly all I did was watch YouTube videos. Part of my malaise came when I opened an email from the Kingston Building Department and saw all the shit I would have to do to remediate the supposed lead at the brick mansion on Downs Street. One thing that would have to happen is a "wet clean," which seems impossible in that one unit where a hoarder lives.

Late this afternoon I made a spaghetti dinner, using Trader Joe's meatless hamburger crumble as the protein. Gretchen had said she didn't like the flavor of that crumble when tasted by itself, but I'd pointed out that it tastes fine once added to marinara sauce, something she actually agreed with me about. (Normally her "supertasting" is impervious to argument or negotiation.)
