I carried perhaps 80 sprinkling cans of water to the creek garden, watering the corn, early beets. It seems that the Country Gentleman corn is more vulnerable to drought than the Golden Bantam, although this might have been due to difference in position. In any case, the leaves of the former began to roll up for the first time. I also saw the first bean beetles today-or was it yesterday? We had a very light shower this evening-amounting to nothing!
