I dug the last of the potatoes on the hill patch, mostly Norchip planted 4-11 and 5=1. The early potatoes were better than I had expected-though not good-considering how dry it was. Those planted 5-11 in particular consisted of many small ones on each vine. In general those planted in the part of the patch where no leaves had been placed seemed best[ leaves absorbed nutrients such as nitrogen ?]. 17 eggs today. Gus and I are sleeping in the tent nightly on "coon watch. " Although the ground's hard, the air is fresh and the sounds pleasing! The weather has been cool and dry for almost a week now. The temp. was 48deg, F this morning.
