see also: Energy in a Real World Virginians for Wilderness Forests of the Appalachians | Sunday, July 31, 1977 What I took to be muskrat cut off several stalks of corn in the creek garden [immediately adjacent to the stream] and pulled them into the stream. I also watered again there where almost everything except the potatoes is doing well. Especially the summer squash are producing very well. However, although the cucumber vines look very good they produce only enough from 6 hills enough to eat now. (edit) On Sat July 20 i [Betty] observed a nasty wound on Natchez's hoof just a "hair' below the coronet. I palpated the area and she appeared to be in no pain whatever. Today Bob and I doctored her by soaking the area wit epsom salt and applying copertox. She did appear to feel the heat, but again I palpated the area and can find no painful spots. now I'll wait to see if any sand cracks appear. (edit) eggs today. Placed chicken wire barrier to muskrats in front of creek garden gate. Also, it appears raccoons ripped off some green tomatoes in the slope garden) in frustration ?) last night. The weather is very hot and dry (T~90deg. ?). (edit)
