We ate our first excellent watermelon today (Gus had first bite.). Natchez got into Heizer's pig pasture. Our first 3 cantaloupe {Ambrosia) ripened today. We ate one that weighed 8 lb and was excellent. We dined on corn in a vegetarian meal again. Raccoons hit the creek garden although Gus and I slept out in the slope garden not far away. I have noted that there are fewer Praying Mantis this year, perhaps due to last winter's cold or last summer's drought.

** Betty obtained a new job at a day nursery.
