Saturday, April 7, 1979

It was 21deg. F this morning. Betty got her bees and placed them in the hive. Betty, on the advice of Shaner, put the bees in in the morning (sunny day). A jar of sugar solution (1/1) was placed in hive entrance. Planted a 45' row of shallots (my own cloves) in the slope garden, using no fertilizer. I also planted four 40' rows of Kennebec potatoes, using my own sets over trenches with chicken-goat manure. 24 eggs today, including one bantam egg! We stopped feeding our horses about 3 days ago because they didn't come anymore. Bought 25 lb milk replacement for $9. 25 and 100 lbs of mash.
