Your leaking thatched hut during the restoration of a pre-Enlightenment state.

Hello, my name is Judas Gutenberg and this is my blaag (pronounced as you would the vomit noise "hyroop-bleuach").

   February 2017

spontaneous foot complaint - For some reason I find myself dreading the descent of a staircase.
a science fair project idea - Coming up with a solution for the problem of Donald Trump.
behind multiple layers of technology - Why my job is rarely perturbed by disturbances in The Organization.
one of his multiethnic surprises - Mark appears and pulls me out of my bachelor fugue state.
warm enough for chipmunk mining - The dogs don't come back for awhile, and while unsuccessfully attempting to climb a slope, I see a pair of snow bikers. Also Ray & Mark interfere with my home improvement plans.
the one marvelously unsegmented pool of time - Plans to make workday progress on installing an exterior door are set back by a minor workplace crisis and the limited supply of early February daylight.
eternal Trumpster Fire. - Reading about Trump while debugging a shitty API.
quick winter door install - A warmish day makes me take the plunge to remove a window and some wall and replace them with some door despite the time of year.
glasses-shaped mark in the snow - The first foot-deep snow in years, and shoveling it while connected to my remote workplace.
the new skyscrapers of Brooklyn - Seeing a live podcast recording at BAM and spending the night in one of the new towers downtown.
real estate mogul on the Palisades - A guy with a cute rescue pit bull turns out to own most of the Rondout.
listening to political podcasts again - Trump is so incompetent now that hearing people talk about him isn't as painful as it was. So I do so while working on the basement door project.
Panera has good WiFi - I prefer the scene at Outdated. But it closes at 4:00pm. And, it turns out, it has crappy WiFi.
buying a wreck of a house on Valentine's Day - Another closing on a real estate investment, this time a serious fixer-upper.
drywall is something I can do - Though I never really wanted to be good at it, it's now definitely a skill that I have.
forty nine - On this birthday, I eat two different kinds of pizzas and am given several kinds of flasks (one containing maple syrup) among other things.
the ride to Tulum - Loud Americans and making cheap flip flops wearable, among other things.
to the Tulum beach - Gretchen and I ride marginal bikes to the yoga resort where we'll be staying.
post-apocalyptic Chedraui - Another closing on a real estate investment, this time a serious fixer-upper.
what I want to do on vacation - Doing the same stuff as usual, but with different pressures and with a different environment.
cenote near the squatters' camp - The best Mexican water experience so far.
a sea change at Tulum Beach - After coughing up a bunch of seaweed onto the beach, the ocean quiets down and becomes tranquil. And I take my first ride in a colectivo.
farts on planes - Not just one fart, and not just one plane. I'm talking about the flight back from Cancún
Panera for an important videoconference - Good news in the realm of dismal bagels and an absence of vegan options.
like driving in a hurricane - A powerful storm blows through and even manages to kill some electronics.
what happened to that wooden bowl - A tale of a housesitter's dopeyness to amuse a birthday boy.
more elegant hinge than expected - I surprise myself with the quality of a pet door I build.
thanks, Stripey - Of course Stripey shows up after I've just painted the floor.
