A painting I did in 1994
I

had strange dreams about do-it-yourself skin grafts last night. I often dream about performing medical procedures upon myself, sometimes just for the hell of it. In my dreams I've amputated my penis and my limbs just so I could sew them back on again. Usually something goes wrong. But my skin grafts last night were remarkably successful.

T

he wind howled and rain slanted in as a bizarre winter shower stormed through Charlottesville. But that was outside, a place I rarely go. I awoke at around noon and bent to the task of typing one of my Dad's biological surveys. Such tasks are long and tedious, and I don't type very quickly from manuscripts (since I never mastered touch-typing).

Matthew and I went on an errand to cash paychecks and pay the phone bill (which was due today). On the way home we took advantage of the burger wars to try out the new Burger King "Big King," for sale now for only 99 cents as part of a promotional campaign. Matthew and I ordered two each plus fries. That came to 1720 calories each. In general I've been avoiding beef for fears of Mad Cow Disease (Oprah was right!), but a man has to eat, and if beef is cheap enough, I'll scarf it up without hesitation.

I

think I'd like to get a small car for the upcoming road trip. Would anyone want to sell me one for less than $1000? Good things would be a hatchback, manual transmission, low gas mileage, and a history of someone having died in the car. Bad things would be air conditioning, expensive stereo equipment, power anything, and unsurmountable rust. My Dart, you see, needs a front end alignment and two new tires just to pass inspection. It gets maybe eight miles to the gallon. I need something better to go cross country. If you can sell me a car by email, I'll find a way to your place just to buy it.

There are more factoids on my factoids page, inspired by some of Firedrake's confessions.
