personality, always has a hare-brained scheme
Fatima - like Shanti and Savitri, a tall thin Durkee girl, but 
much younger and slightly crazier
Francis the Rat - Deya's white rat; likes to hang out in couches
Franz - his angular face frequently conveys a cynically 
patronizing air, but this is a distraction
Fred Oesch - local architect and artist, lives at a house on a 
soapstone mine
Freedom - white-haired vegan girl with an interest in 
resourceful living and Beatniks
Funky Matthew - outgoing local guitarist and funk musician
Eric "the Huffanator" 
Huffman - pissed-off Nazi skinhead who knows a lot about Vikings
Hapless Mike - he saved the 4-20 party 
of 1997 with a big sack of muddy pot leaves
Encina Riffini - one 
of the most inspirational of my college chums, this pretty little girl

Hoagie - the name I gave my mother at the age of four
Ian Cohen - extroverted and energetic dance-party organizer and computer graphics whiz continually plagued by bad luck with the law
Jacques deBeaufort - local conceited artist. He likes to 
photograph nude people.

sometimes a hippie, sometimes a Nazi skinhead, you never can tell what

the Downtown Artspace;  we've slept together
Jenna - one of Senna's crunchy friends; once thought Jessika was two different people, one being a blue-haired bitch

plagued by strange fascinations and overly tolerating the many weird boys

Joanna Road Rage 
- yet another girl from Malvernia; she's impatient, fashion-conscious, obsessively indecisive and she complains a lot.

- loveable, whimsical artist type.  Gets calmly enthusiastic easily.

John Zawacki - poet, bartender, hell of a guy, one of the first people I met in Charlottesville.

Furr - paranoid redneck now in jail for attempted murder
Joy Powley - my first real girlfriend, from 1987-1989.  She 
broke my heart.
Karen the German Girl - fresh 
from Germany, she hung out with the goths and dyed her hair black, later 
wrecking the home of Ana and Raphæl.
Katherine the Girl Across the Street - a flirtatious girl who 
used to live in Minga's house
Katherine the Nurse - used to hang out at the Horrid Crash Pad
KC - artistic, sexy, and usually has a youthful boyfriend. She 
often hangs out with the Triplets.
Kelly 
- guitarist for the now-defunct matchbook poets;  she woke up in my bed after a particularly crazy drunken night
Kiki - (also Bad Sex), 
addicted to tussin and given to manic, psychotic destructive episodes
Kirstin the Ecoradical - doesn't think 
God messed up when He made marijuana
Krazy Thom - more energetic than crazy, a noise musician and 
rambunctious breaker of his own bones
Lanky Ben - very tall, ironic young man who works at Chaps on 
the Downtown Mall
Large Meat Pizza - much 
younger than you think, but she does some very adult things
Leah Hale - thinks sometimes you haven't 
said something unless a dish lies broken
Leslie Montalto - my girlfriend from 1992-1994, she was 
somewhat dyslexic, an accomplished potter, and loved to go trash picking
Leslie Tapeworm - plagued by low self esteem, this teenage girl 
chased me around a party in defense of 
the spoiled rich kid Chaz
Leticia the Brazilian Girl - sadistic and frisky, but dislikes 
marijuana
Little Jason - this little guy with the rasta hat likes to 
travel and smoke the kind
Liz the Alternachick - with bleached hair, a dark suntan, and a 
scooter,

Lydia Conder - runs her own graphic design business as well as 
Gallery Neo, but she's still just a little girl
Manatee, The - Monster Boy's childhood friend who somewhat 
resembles a sea mammal.  He drives a pink Geo.
Manic Michelle - always out of control, she commands a cult of 
teenage boys
Mayor, The - enigmatically charming quasi-political figure in 
Bethesda, has his own website
Matthew Hart - smart, 
witty, gregarious, but cursed with needs and prone to neglect important 
things
Mel - very wise, very dark black man who talks, drinks, and 
pauses in wait for your "uh huh."
Minga - eccentric old man who lived across the street from 
KMF.  Reminded me of Deya.
Monster Boy - goth boy with a fancy for 
marijuana and things bought by others, works at sterilizing equipment in 
the hospital
Morgan Anarchy - 
ideally he'd be on the railroad tracks with a half gallon of cheap whiskey 
and a couple good friends
Nancy Firedrake - photogenic online friend & bike nut, has her 
own website
Naomi Mushrock - this Malvernian aspires to be a clothing 
designer, if she can ever stay out of rehab
Natalie Frieberg - weirdly-intellectual St. Johns student, 
Shonin's older half sister, once dated Dempsey
Natalie the German Girl - calmly conspiratorial, blond and 
upbeat and maybe at the Tokyo Rose tonight
Nathan VanHooser - my most 
reliable friend;  I met him in fourth grade.  This idealist likes bikes.
Natural Leslie - socially warm and loves nature, but gets kind 
of frisky when drunk.  A "stuff-grabbing hippie."
Nellie - the most outgoing 
girl I know, this artist/photographer once lived near Big Fun
Nemo - the male son of Ana 
and Raphæl, born June, 1996.  Now lives with Ana in San Francisco.
Nicholas the Cat - Deya's fluffy grey cat who she found 
helpless in the bushes as a kitten
Nicole Truxell - this writer for the C-ville 
Weekly is a good person to say you are if you're caught trespassing.
Nikolai - jolly artist and low-fi musician with a fondness for 
the sweet leaf, now in Chicago
Patrick - vegan, non-violent and resourceful (with a touch of 
Krazy Thom), Freedom's boyfriend
Patrick Reed - also 
vegan but conspiratorial, gregarious and caffeine-driven, he's often 
encountered whistling a merry tune as he jaunts down the Mall.
Paul - Wacky Jen's older, wiser housemate. This musician is a 
good source of witty insights.
Peggy - indecisively clawing her way 
towards the light of utopia
Persad - Theresa Venezian's old boyfriend, likes nature and is 
handy with knives
Peter Grieser - local alterna-music hero, though his band 
Supertanker is kind of goofy
Phil Ginini - street 
musician with a fondness for very thin girls
Quiet Andy - speaks only if spoken to
Quintuplets, The - the largely Jewish, largely Virgo group that 
includes the Triplets, Sarah Kleiner and KC

Wintersberger - this energetic musician likes European cars, 
gadgets, and (evidently) the ladies
Ray Robot - gears his behaviour specifically to most irritate 
those in his audience, presumably for attention
Ray Snabley - the drunker 
he gets, the goofier his Attention Deficit Disorder becomes.
Rebecca the Goth Girl - believes goths who can't quote 
Baudelaire should wear floral prints; used to date Monster Boy
Red Faced Collin - from all reports, a pleasant, intelligent 
lad, until he decided to join up with the tough guys.
Red-Headed Diana - 
fun-loving wearer of a Wonderbra
Rippy - an eccentric, depressive straight-edge musician friend 
at Oberlin.  His father is the country's pre-eminent radio astronomer.
Rory - a sociopath from Leeds, England, 
unleashed for a time on American soil.  Also see his online 
journal.
Sarah Kleiner - small and cute and somewhat maternal.
Sara Poiron - ADD and 
melodrama characterize this Gemini, who recently worked as a Dominatrix.
Sarah "Rosy" Rosenthal - short Jewish girl, friends with Leah Hale 
and Diana the Redhead.
Savitri - tall, witty, smart, artistically successful, 
everything a woman should want to be
Senna - A thin, attractive girl; has two kids but still likes to go to bars and date musicians.  Offered the drunk boys her back porch as a place to live.
Shanti - taller and older than sister Savitri, and perhaps a 
little more dissolute as well
Shawn the Counselor - plays the drums and likes old American 
cars.
Shira the Dog - very naughty and probably still not house 
trained, Matthew and Angela love her all the same
Shira, the late - 
artistic and whimsical, Shira died of a cocaine 
overdose in December, 1997
Shonin - open to ideas about how to blow the day when he's not 
off at college or cleaning medical equipment
Spiritual Dave - this guy resembles Christ, but there's 
something up with his eyes.  Does he have a job, or is he just a drunk?
Spring - an Internet friend originally from Ft. Meade, MD.  She 
went to the Aquarius Party and later donated a

lonely, persistent, infuriating and embarrassing, Steve died in March, 1998.
Sydney - a little old man who can frequently be seen sweeping

live in a big house near Batesville.  Hannah: has a

Tyler - a calm, collected, jaded, alcoholic C&O bartender.  
Didn't have sex for six years during the 90s.
Utkan - an enthusiastic Turkish lad who always appears at the 
tranquil moment in a weird evening
Vannah - in late 1996, she was an increasingly goth punk rock 
girl working at Gumby's Pizza, but then she vanished into the Mexican

Whirlie-Bird Man - a familiar person on the Corner, almost 
paralyzed by nervous tics.
Wonderboy Neek - tall and
scrawny and likely to make long distance phone calls when not supervised.
