Francis the Rat - Deya's white rat; likes to hang out in couches
Franz - his angular face frequently conveys a cynically
patronizing air, but this is a distraction
Fred Oesch - local architect and artist, lives at a house on a
soapstone mine
Freedom - white-haired vegan girl with an interest in
resourceful living and Beatniks
Funky Matthew - outgoing local guitarist and funk musician

used to live in Minga's house
Katherine the Nurse - used to hang out at the Horrid Crash Pad
KC - artistic, sexy, and usually has a youthful boyfriend. She
often hangs out with the Triplets.

- guitarist for the now-defunct matchbook poets; she woke up in my bed after a particularly crazy drunken night

addicted to tussin and given to manic, psychotic destructive episodes
Kirstin the Ecoradical - doesn't think

the Downtown Mall

Manatee, The - Monster Boy's childhood friend who somewhat

Manic Michelle - always out of control, she commands a cult of

Mayor, The - enigmatically charming quasi-political figure in
Bethesda, has his own website
Matthew Hart - smart,
witty, gregarious, but cursed with needs and prone to neglect important
things
Mel - very wise, very dark black man who talks, drinks, and
pauses in wait for your "uh huh."
Minga - eccentric old man who lived across the street from
KMF. Reminded me of Deya.
Monster Boy - goth boy with a fancy for
marijuana and things bought by others, works at sterilizing equipment in
the hospital
Morgan Anarchy -
ideally he'd be on the railroad tracks with a half gallon of cheap whiskey
and a couple good friends
Nancy Firedrake - photogenic online friend & bike nut, has her
own website
Naomi Mushrock - this Malvernian aspires to be a clothing
designer, if she can ever stay out of rehab
Natalie Frieberg - weirdly-intellectual St. Johns student,
Shonin's older half sister, once dated Dempsey
Natalie the German Girl - calmly conspiratorial, blond and
upbeat and maybe at the Tokyo Rose tonight
Nathan VanHooser - my most
reliable friend; I met him in fourth grade. This idealist likes bikes.
Natural Leslie - socially warm and loves nature, but gets kind
of frisky when drunk. A "stuff-grabbing hippie."
Nellie - the most outgoing
girl I know, this artist/photographer once lived near Big Fun
Nemo - the male son of Ana
and Raphæl, born June, 1996. Now lives with Ana in San Francisco.
Nicholas the Cat - Deya's fluffy grey cat who she found
helpless in the bushes as a kitten
Nicole Truxell - this writer for the C-ville
Weekly is a good person to say you are if you're caught trespassing.
Nikolai - jolly artist and low-fi musician with a fondness for
the sweet leaf, now in Chicago
Patrick - vegan, non-violent and resourceful (with a touch of
Krazy Thom), Freedom's boyfriend
Patrick Reed - also
vegan but conspiratorial, gregarious and caffeine-driven, he's often
encountered whistling a merry tune as he jaunts down the Mall.
Paul - Wacky Jen's older, wiser housemate. This musician is a
good source of witty insights.

Persad - Theresa Venezian's old boyfriend, likes nature and is

Ray Snabley - the drunker

Rebecca the Goth Girl - believes goths who can't quote
Baudelaire should wear floral prints; used to date Monster Boy
Red Faced Collin - from all reports, a pleasant, intelligent
lad, until he decided to join up with the tough guys.
Red-Headed Diana -
fun-loving wearer of a Wonderbra
Rippy - an eccentric, depressive straight-edge musician friend
at Oberlin. His father is the country's pre-eminent radio astronomer.
Rory - a sociopath from Leeds, England,
unleashed for a time on American soil. Also see his online

Sarah Kleiner - small and cute and somewhat maternal.
Sara Poiron - ADD and
melodrama characterize this Gemini, who recently worked as a Dominatrix.
Sarah "Rosy" Rosenthal - short Jewish girl, friends with Leah Hale
and Diana the Redhead.
Savitri - tall, witty, smart, artistically successful,
everything a woman should want to be
Senna - A thin, attractive girl; has two kids but still likes to go to bars and date musicians. Offered the drunk boys her back porch as a place to live.
Shanti - taller and older than sister Savitri, and perhaps a
little more dissolute as well
Shawn the Counselor - plays the drums and likes old American
cars.
Shira the Dog - very naughty and probably still not house
trained, Matthew and Angela love her all the same
Shira, the late -
artistic and whimsical, Shira died of a cocaine

Shonin - open to ideas about how to blow the day when he's not

Spiritual Dave - this guy resembles Christ, but there's
something up with his eyes. Does he have a job, or is he just a drunk?
Spring - an Internet friend originally from Ft. Meade, MD. She
went to the Aquarius Party and later donated a

Sydney - a little old man who can frequently be seen sweeping

paralyzed by nervous tics.
