Halldör Kiljan Laxness, who won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1955, happens to be Auður's grandfather. This is one of several posters with his likeness displayed prominently in a downtown Reykjavik bookstore. Iceland values literature much more highly than most other countries. Unfortunately, though, Iceland taxes books in a way that makes them roughly twice as expensive as they are in the United States. |
