   turbulence of the rocket flight
Tuesday, August 14 2001
I went to a notary public down on 7th Avenue in Park Slope this morning to sign over the deed of my West LA condo to the people who hopefully will be buying it. I seem to recall the services of a notary public costing $15 in San Diego, but it only cost me $2 here. The notary guy asked at first if I needed his notarizing for a photo ID - I guess I still look like a young punk and he hadn't expected a guy like me to be wrangling a transcontinental real estate transaction.

Today in some ways I felt blessed, and in others I felt cursed. I have experienced so many dramatic changes in the past three years that it's difficult for me to say whether the events of today were the turbulence of the rocket flight or the beginning of a dramatic change in direction. For the most part, though, I feel like I'm heading approximately in the right direction. The tendency I need to fight hardest right now is the one which keeps me defending an indefensible lifestyle, or otherwise stuck doing things that neither sufficiently challenge me nor benefit others who are important to me. [REDACTED]

Me in the toilet stall at work today. Behind me you can see the black console of the automatic toilet flushing mechanism, as well as the sign necessitated by its imprecision.
