Sally meets Suzy in the Prospect Park
Wednesday, October 24 2001

I ran across Ray and his dog Suzy in Long Meadow of Prospect Park this morning when I was walking Sally. Sally and Suzy rejoiced to come upon each other, and they spent the rest of the walk running around together and getting in trouble. Suzy found some shit to roll in, but it was fairly easy to clean off in the dewy grass. Ray made Suzy lie on the grass and then he dragged her ten feet. She seemed to like the attention. In the context of the park, Ray is much more of a law abiding citizen than I am. I tend to be more of a sociopath, generally not cleaning up poo unless it's right in the path, and never discouraging Sally from digging holes. But Ray, he steps in to admonish in the cases where I fail.
When Ray and Suzy had to go their separate way home, Suzy kept turning around to look at us wistfully over her shoulder. Suzy is very fond of Sally. Sally, on the other hand, is very fond of garbage.
It was yet another perfect Indian Summer day, great for being unemployed or working from home. It's hard to get a sense of how beautiful the day is in the first floor rear co-op of this brownstone, since the only semblance of sunlight is reflected from windows of other buildings. But if you go out in the backyard and look directly upward, you'll see a rectangular patch of blue sky and smell the leaves of autumn. When the wind blows, you can hear the ones still attached to trees rustle. When they've been stripped of water and nutrients they have a crisper sound than the rustling leaves of summer.

In a Boggle game today I found the word "YARDTOOL," which Gretchen only allowed me to play for two points.

If there's one thing I know, it's that my readers are smart. So, smart people, I have something of a Windows 2000 problem, running IE 6.0.2600. For some reason the javascript popups launch very very slowly. This has always been a problem on my workplace computer, but has only recently begun affecting my home computer. What's going on here? What can I do to fix it? It's very irritating. Oh, and I have 512 Megs of RAM.
