raising a small roof Sunday, September 23 2007
It was a beautiful sunny day, and at this time of year the sun is approaching the angle of maximum efficiency for solar collection by my two water heating panels.
I spent the day building (and completing) the roof on the new woodshed, which ended up being a plane measuring twelve feet by eight feet tilted northward 5.7 degrees. It lay on seven rafters spaced two feet apart, each attached to two girders on either end with special metal joist hangers. Gretchen helped me do a few things, such as measure the rafter spacing and hand up supplies (including the three sheets of plywood, the six pieces of galavanized metal roofing, the roofing nails, a metal punch, a glass of SportTea, and a vegan bagel sandwich containing fake cheese and slices of tomato). It was good to have successfully completed the roof without any of the lumber ever having been rained on.
