making cables in front of a teevee Thursday, March 27 2008
I spent the afternoon watching teevee and making long ethernet cables in anticipation for another day doing computer networking in a prison tomorrow. Making cables with a crimper is slow, fussy, tedious work, but after making a few of them I picked up the pace. No matter how slow and fussy a job is, after awhile your hands develop the motor skills to do it with agility. Unfortunately, there is no way to make an ethernet cable without looking at it (the eight colored wires must be inserted in a specific order), so I wasn't really following the teevee all that well. Of all the content I sat through, I missed the most during an episode of the Simpsons, where the majority of the humor is actually visual. I should have been listening to a podcast or the radio.
