   macaroni made from lupini beans
Wednesday, January 17 2024
The day was brutally cold, with temperatures never rising out of the teens. Compounding the isolation, today was the day the house cleaner came to clean the house, causing me to hole up in the laboratory for most of the four hours she worked (so as to stay out of her way). To keep myself busy, I applied for jobs, had ChatGPT come up with the SQL I needed to add some copy-from-and-to template table functionality to my spec project, and painted another painting of Charlotte and Neville being cute. Meanwhile Charlotte and Neville spent the day on the laboratory beanbag. They were so comfortable with the cleaner once they knew who was making noises that they didn't bark at her at all.
At around 2:00pm, I attempted to take the dogs for a walk, but Neville took a few steps into the snow and decided to go back inside, at which point Charlotte did the same.
Gretchen wanted to salvage that tomato breadcrumb soup she'd made last night as well as a few other leftovers, so she told me not to make dinner tonight but to instead to cook up a pot of rice or a some macaroni noodles made from the flour of lupini beans. So I made both of those, figuring that rice is always a good thing to have in an edible form. After making it, I realized that the macaroni made from lupini flour was a horrible product. It had a mealy texture and an aftertaste that could best be described as resembling freezer burn. When Gretchen got home, she agreed with me. Slathering it with a faux cheese sauce, it was possible to eat, but in the end we decided to give it all to the dogs.
