vegetarian Jamaican food Friday, February 24 2006
I had my nose to the grindstone all day working on stuff (when I wasn't procrastinating), but in the evening I gave Gretchen some much-demanded "alone time" and went out to dinner at La Pupuseria in Kingston with the Tillsons. The original plan was to go to a Jamaican place on the other side of Broadway, but it turned out that there were no vegetarian options there. (The only vegetarian Jamaican food I can think of offhand is smoked, not eaten.) Interestingly, I found myself being much funnier and conversational than usual, reminding me of the way I used to be. I like being funny and social, but it's just enough of a job that when Gretchen is around it's tempting to just outsource most of that work to her so I can stare at the ceiling and muse about my projects. It's good to know, though, that my social skills haven't completely rusted away.
